Meet Eddie
Black and Masters Squads
I consider myself as a bit of a dinosaur now but I still get a lot of enjoyment from Coaching. Helping swimmers to achieve their potential, sharing in their journey and having lots of laughs along the way is hugely rewarding.
What is your fastest 100m time?
If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If you could only wear one colour for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Do you have any hidden talents?
I love cooking.
I've been extremely fortunate throughout my swimming career. I've worked with super successful swimmers & they've always been quick to recognise the contribution that GASC has delivered.
The Coaches I've worked with have given a level of support that goes way beyond what would be deemed to be satisfactory & deserve the credit for the Club's achievements. The support staff, teachers, committee members, managers, etc. working diligently in their spare time, have all contributed to the success of GASC. I have to say, that over the years & beyond a doubt, "I've been one luck laddie!"
Drew Young, who was GASC Coach at the time my son Justin & my daughter Claire joined the Club. Drew was a bottomless barrel of swimming knowledge & spent a lot of time encouraging & guiding me. I learnt so much from him. A true gentleman.
Drew invited me on poolside to help out around 1985. Initially, I would not class it as "Coaching", more a volunteer & I really only made sure the swimmers were doing what the Coach instructed. However, Drew soon had me on a pathway to achieving qualifications.
I've had so many memorable moments over the years but the stand out for me is the quality of the Swimmers I've had the fortune to work with. Sharing in their success is the most rewarding experience.
Advice I've given often & freely over the years, "Life can be tough & if you don't take advantage of the gifts you've been given, it will be even tougher. So, if you've got a gift for swimming, then take advantage of it, work at it & don't waste it."
The funniest thing that has happened to me while coaching at Glenrothes was "Elizabeth Galloway telling me she was the one who developed all the swimmers & I was the one who got all the recognition!" She could be right but please don't tell her!!!! 😂
Its a progressive Club & committed to improving. The celebration of the swimmers' success is refreshing.
