Meet Helen
Red, E and Masters Squads
I’m old(ish), I’m a professional photographer with my own studio and love my job. I enjoy swimming and do a lot of scuba diving and snorkelling when on holiday, I love a wee swim with sharks when I get the chance 😉.
What is your fastest 100m time?
If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If you could only wear one colour for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Do you have any hidden talents?
Juijitsu!
I am a type 1 diabetic and have been for only the last 4 years due to a virus in my pancreas. It’s a huge learning curve but I like to think of it as a challenge! I have a few hobbies, swimming being one of them. I also love reading and read around 3 novels a week 😱.
I like to be challenged and once did a trek across the Rift Valley in Tanzania for a charity, I’ve walked on fire and glass and I’ve jumped out of an aeroplane in a tandem skydive. I have a huge phobia of cockroaches 🪳, but love spiders!
I consider myself friendly and approachable but I am also quite shy so social settings can be challenging but the best way to face a challenge is definitely head on ! I used to train in Brazilian juijitsu and am now involved in the sport via my granddaughters. Maybe one day I will be a level 2 coach 😄
I’m just a lowly level 1 coach, but I love it. My granddaughter started with GASC about a year ago so I volunteered as a poolside assistant and then completed my level 1 coaching last July. I love to swim and it gives me happy vibes watching and trying to help youngsters progress and love swimming like I do.
A piece of advice for all swimmers…… enjoy it, work hard and progress at your own speed 🥰
Oohhh, If I could swim alongside any famous swimmer…. Going back a LOT of years but David Wilkie was my poster swimmer back in the day (no prizes for guessing my age)...
I love the family vibe the club gives out. I see the level of commitment the coaches and volunteers and the swimmers give to everyone. It’s so good to see how well the swimmers are doing and it shows how good the whole team at GASC are and how hard they work.
