Meet Wayne
D Squad
I started swimming later in life and coaching even later. I love outdoor swimming as well as lane swimming and now teach with fife leisure.
What is your fastest 100m time?
If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If you could only wear one colour for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Do you have any hidden talents?
I can swim underwater on my back without breathing out bubbles through my nose....
I didn't know this was an hidden talent but seems to be 😆.
I moved to Scotland 16 years ago to start a new life with my family and never looked back. Started swimming in my mid 30s doing pool swimming and eventually out door swimming doing a few 5k swims and a 10k. I raced with the club masters and got gold in my age group so decided to retire on a high 😆, and help poolside with the club. I then took on D squad and coach them Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I like to work them hard but I like to have a laugh too.
I've had an amazing bunch of swimmers over the past year and watching them move up is amazing even if it means I don't get to coach them.the children I continue to coach also amaze me and no doubt won't be in my squad long. I can't wait to see what every year brings for me and the club.
I've only been coaching a year, and just qualified as a swimming instructor in December 2022, the people that inspire me are the people I see every day in the water doing something they love. My most memorable moments are always when I see my swimmers move up into another squad watching them grow in confidence with in them selves and their swimming
If I could give one piece of advice to new swimmers it would be "Work hard and have FUN!"
What do I think sets GASC apart from other swimming clubs? I'm in it 😆
